YOLO: Slang as Human Migration
do you even babe?
BABE:
[beyb]
noun
1. a baby or child.
2. an innocent or inexperienced person.
3. (usually initial capital letter) Southern U.S. (used, often before the surname, as a familiar name for a boy or man, especially the youngest of a family.)
4. Slang
- A girl or woman, especially an attractive one:
- ex. Her roommate is a real babe!
- An attractive young man
5. Babe in the woods, an innocent, unsuspecting person, especially one likely to be victimized by others: Some highly informed people are mere babes in the woods where the stock market is concerned.
Origin
Early Middle English
1150-1200; 1915-20 Middle English; early Middle English Baban, probably nursery word in origin
This slang word shows us that our culture is diverse; we took pieces from different cultures and made it our own. For example, Baban is the original word for older woman but today, we use babe which means, a baby or child and an innocent or inexperienced person. It also shows that we are lazy because we keep shorten words to make it easier to say. An example, there was a dial on the t.v. so we can change the channel, now there is a remote which shortens how much effort we put into changing the channel.
This is a Prezi® giving more information on babe and how it involved in our culture and the history of the word. >>>Enjoy>>>
